i have an 88 f150. and i'm not a big fan of their front ends. it's an awesome truck.. but those headlights.... how hard would it be to take the front clip off of an 81-86 and put it on?i like that body style much better..
Its fairly easy. it just takes time. You will need evey thing off of the other front clip. and might need to modifiy the harrness to the lights and your body lines won't match up but every thing bolt right up for the most part
would it be easier to just switch cabs? because i have an 84 that the engine is shot just sitting here...
Uhh, no probably not. Especially going back to an 80-86 cab. I'm assuming you want to replace your 87-91 front clip with a 92-96 front clip? That would be the easiest thing to do.
i just want something without those big ugly square headlights... i can't stand them.. and i've always been a fan of the 80-86 front end... plus i already have one of those.. an 84 so it would be cheaper..
No doubt, the 88 to 91 front ends are the worst, imo. They are extremely fugly. As for going slightly retro...it wouldn't be too hard. I believe that the hood and fenders are similar from 81 to 96. Order a LMC catalog for your truck years to see what would fit. It could be a replacement of the fenders, hood, and, obviously the front end (as that is what you want). I believe that LMC is your best option. Good luck with your endeavor to switch your front end and make it look bad-***!!!!
where were those pictures being posted? i'd like to take a gander...
I couldn't find the thread with the pics but there was only one or two of them showing the truck up on jacks with the new front end. Not much to see in the way of how-to type pics. Here are the links to a couple of threads talking about how it can be done.
Good thing Ford changed the front end quicker with a redesign quicker than normal too.
They redesigned at the same interval after the 92-96 trucks, if you think they are better looking. Each has his own taste and personally, I like the 87-91 trucks.
