I have a 92 Flareside. I've been thinking bout my headlights. the thoughts have been getting new ones. Such as LED's. Maybe even do my taillights. Anyone know a company that carries LED direct replacement headlamps??
I haven't seen LED headlights yet, or any LED lamps for that matter that will approach the output of a 60w halogen bulb for anything close to the same price, something like this would cost $50-75 a piece I bet. HID is a popular upgrade but it's also expensive. The cheapest thing you can do is install a headlight relay with heavier power cable directly off the battery, this makes a noticable difference in brightness apparently.
yeh my main want is something that is brighter but i want the look also. i might just go with sylvania halogens the top ones they make forgot the name.
ok, i thought i would have to do a headlight relay mod. Id rather not have to do anything electrical to the truck. I've found Some sylvania Cool-Blues that look like HID's. So im gonna think bout those. I wonder if anyone has experience with these cool blues.
Xenon is the gas the bulb is filled with. Should be able to pick them up anywhere that sells lights.
A headlight relay will take the current out of the headlamp switch in the dash, reducing the resistance. This leads to the headlamps being brighter and prevents the headlamp switch from overheating, and potentially causing a fire.
i've used em on my old 150 and just put em on this truck a week ago sorry i dont have a picture just go on ebay and type in your truck and xenon you'll see a bunch of options its only like 12 bucks with shipping thats why i put em on my old truck in the first place. they will look just like a replacement bulb but with blue glass and like virto said its just a different gas in the bulb that gives you the white with a blue glare headlight, i got em just beacause i think they look good and were cheap and work i figure thats what your lookin for...sorry bout writin this novel for you to read
I agree about the relay mod. LMC sells it for 35 bucks. It is on my to do list.
The tinted halogen bulbs suck. They are really bad in for and rain. Stay away from cool blue, silver star, or those cheap ebay bulbs.
Sylvania Xtravision is a good bulb. GE Nighthawk (not sport) is a good bulb also. These bulbs are halogen with xenon added to the gas mixture. These are plus 20% bulbs.
I know that there is phillips vision plus that is supposed to be a plus 20 bulb.
Osram silver star from the UK is supposed to be a good bulb too.
The tinted ones just reduce the amount of light coming out.
Retrofitted HID is illegal. The headlight assembly is not designed for HID. It will just be a major glare to oncomming drivers.
If You seriously want good night time vision. Do the relay mod, and get some Osram Nightbreakers. You'll be able to see the ants crossing the road at night. Without blinding oncoming traffic.
