FTE Member Ideas...

I was talking to Brenden (papadelogan) last night and we started talking about making some sort of library or tool cache for all the cheap or home-made tools that are needed. Since it seems there are several occasions that you need a tool only once, ie the hutch/harpoon, our idea is to start something where these could be donated and then loaned out. This way those with no access to equipment to make there needed tools, can share at just the cost of shipping. Any thoughts?

That is a great idea Clay. One or two things we ca make a list and Scott or I can "sticky" it to the top of the page, or we can add it to the RHN members only side of the database. I know that Rick Miller has the socket for the rear pinion of a Dana 60 and has already extended the offer.

Great idea. We would need a list of the specialty tools and what are used for so members would know what to need. Or if anything, if there is a "shade tree mechanic" workaround using tools found in most toolboxes, that would be helpful as well.

Don't forget the little tubing cutter for putting in the CCK, or other fuel system mods -- I have one of those...

My two cents:

I believe it should be available to RHN members, and maybe the notice of it should be behind that "firewall".

RHN members are kinda' "pre-screened".

It would also encourage membership there.

I have a hub lube zerk adapter for the mix.

Good idea. The socket I have is for the Dana-80 rear only. It worked great on the nut.

I'm getting ready to do my balljoints once it warms up a little, since I'll be working outside.... after that I'll have this to donate:

1) PVC pipe cutter for Harpoon mod
2) Axle seal installation tool as seen HERE

For the axle seal tool it may just be easiest to send out the trimmed down flange since the tube & cap are standard, but then, USPS has those flat rate boxes.... ehh.. the whole thing is easiest I guess. I'm over-engineering again... LOL

p.s. Good chatting with you last night Clay!

EDIT: another thought, and this would take a web person to do, but how about this:

1) for the RHN, do a map with a dot/star/mark that would show each members location
2) for each member of the RHN, when you moved your mouse over their star, you'd get their contact info AND what tools they presently had available...

Brendan,
I just built my seal driver last week and used it. If you need to borrow it let me know! It cost like 17 at home depot to put together. Ill save ya a few bucks...all you need to do is pay shippin back! I think the flat rate is like 4.80 for unlimited weight....

I thought I was a member of the RHN but never got any response! Jim or JD...can I sign back up at the website itself or what?
