How do you lock the car door without using the key? I thought there was a sequence involving holding in the door button when closing the door, but I am missing the other step. Can someone tell me what I am missing?
Thanks. This works when I am inside, but when I get out and close the door behind me it doesn't stay locked? I have been closing it, and locking it with the key, but I thought there was another way.
you have to slam inside handle forward...then exit the other door and use key to lock it. In closing same door to exit as you shoved inside door handle forward on unlocks the door.
If my memory serves me...all of the trucks only had one door lock...on the LH door...up through 1963 or 64...- cs65
Thru 1961, the drivers side door lock cylinder was an option on Standard Cabs.
1962 and later, both doors on Standard Cabs have lock cylinders.
Beginning in circa 1953, all the Custom Cabs have both right and left door lock cylinders.
For many years, all the automakers cars/trucks only had the lock cylinder on the passenger side, as this was a safety feature, because back then streets didn't have painted lines on them defining lanes.
Automakers only installed the passenger side lock cylinder because they didn't want peeps standing out in traffic locking/unlocking the left door.
Ford passenger cars got both door lock cylinders for the first time in 1949.
No 61 to 66 doors will lock by pushing the handle forward and closing the door. As the roller latch as it operates it levers the handle and unlocks the door.
Push the passenger side forward then get out and lock the drivers door.
Lol using your key to lock the door from the outside is awesome!
You can never leave your keys in the truck I love it!
I wish more cars were like this.
The procedure for locking the doors without the key is to reach in through the wing and do it. Anyone who would try to break in (ie:crack heads) won't understand how the doors mechanism works and won't be able to get in without breaking a window anyway. They might not even realize that the wing opens.
If its a seasoned "slick60's" thief, then he will pop the wing open with the wire lid bracket from a later model Ford master cylinder and your truck will be gone.
All of the trucks i have owned over the last 30 years had to be locked with the keys. eleven trucks so far. i only have five in stock. LOL if you try and lock the door from the inside and then get out and slam the door shut it will unlock it. have to use the key. i really like that as you will never lock your key in the vehickle. That's funny cuz I was thinking the same thing for my truck this last summer.
My '67 Chevelle locks by holding in the button when you shut the door, so I thought a '66 F100 would be similar, but obviously not. I can't lock mine without the key either. (although, it's true...that way you never lock yourself out. Therefore I'll never bother changing it)
