tranny not shifting properly

I just finished putting my engine back together after putting a new intake carb and timing set on. This was the first time i have ever done that stuff before and it seemed to go pretty smooth. The problem came when I got out on the road and took off for the first time. The shifting is all wrong. Inever messed with the tranny so I am clueless. Any help would be great. Thanks alot guys.

You need to be a bit more specific.like it feels like its slipping,its shifting too late,its shifting too early,its not kicking down for passing, That kind of thing.

You might check and see if the vacuum line is hooked up to your transmission from your intake manifold. The tranny should have a vacuum modulator, that helps your tranny shift smoothly. You might also check and make sure the kick down cable is hooked up.

Yep, check the vacuum line first. Easy fix. I've had mine come off and it's not a pleasant expirience. The truck won't shift to the next gear till something like 3500-4000 rpm!

I vote vacuum line also. My only experience with this issue was with a '75 chevy, but I do remember that I could still get it to shift using the gear selector (1, 2, 3) in the mean time. I did a rebuild and misplaced that line. Didn't realize it was missing until I drove to the exhaust shop. Oops.
