I just spent a month prepping and when I painted the Midnight Blue it turned out to be purple.WTF I am going to the paint supply that mixed it in the morning. But before I start over I wanted to see what ya thought about the color?
First of all, you did a great job on the paint! That looks really good. About the color, I'm no expert on Midnight Blue but I agree that it does look purple. The color looks fine in the photo when it's overcast but the direct sunlight shots make it look purple. Still, it's a dark purple (not royal) and while it isn't what you asked for, it still looks great! There were several factory purple muscle cars of that era. I like it. What matters is whether you like it.
I spoke with the paint shop today. They mixed it wrong!!
They will replace the paint but I still need to rework the job myself.
I am trying to see the bright side, but I think I just need to redo it.
Prep work is such a pain though. Back in 2002 I painted my truck and once I was done I didn't like the particular shade of red I chose, but I left it. The truck is in my garage right now getting prepped for BLACK!
Looks like base/clear. Don't you have to sand all the clear off before you can respray? If so, that's a ton of work. What would the paint shop do if you had paid $3K or more and got it back that way? It's a shame you have to eat all that time and effort of sanding, prepping and painting again. Based on the photos, I'm sure it will turn out great again. My truck is supposed to get bodywork and paint over the next couple of weeks, I hope it turns out as nice as yours!
Thanks Guys.
I was pretty heart broke when I first saw it.
Brewski,
I sprayed a single stage paint It is more forgiving to trees and brush.
I would have to wet sand the whole truck well with 600 grit. Then re spray
I am surprised with the positive feedback.
Am I the only one that think it looks like it needs a chandaler and a set of white walls with hydraulics.
That's a really good job for single stage. I'm happy to know it can be THAT glossy. Mine will be getting paint over the next few weeks and I decided to go with single stage in the original Bright Lime color. Seeing yours makes me feel a little better about how the end result may look.
The purple color may look a little different to you if you had all the trim back on the truck. Right now, purple is the only thing to look at. What do you think about making it a 2 tone truck and laying a nice Mercedes Silver on the hood, cab roof and pillars and down the top of the bed (above the "dent")? You'd only have to sand half of the truck and I think it would look great! Just an idea. You may hate 2 tones or really wanted to repaint the original color, I don't know. Could be an option.
Brewski,
I have been toying with the idea of two tone. Also to help match a interior color.
Single stage is a lot more forgiving for a working truck.
To keep from bashing the paint company if you want to send a private message to me I will give you the supplier info.
My paint pro said to use this product for the high gloss and laydown of there single stage paint.
Personally, I like the color. Nice paint job too, BTW. A silver accent stripe or two would set it of nicely, then put the chrome trim back on and you just might be surprised how nice it looks.
