Turn the key and nothing

Hey Guys,

Alright I have been working on the my 87 Bronco for a while now. I have it all ready and I think ok this is it time to enjoy all my work and nothing. I turn the key and have good battery all gauges and lights light up on the dash everything is good but I don't get any response when I turn the key to start the vehicle. No click....nothing. So I try and pull codes with a code reader but I can't get a code or anything anymore. Is this a computer issue, starter issue or what? Thanks for you help in advance.

Check battery cables and connections. I used to get the same kind of thing with my BII when I wasn't getting a good connection at the battery post.

Sounds like you have no power going somewhere. Check to make sure all your fusible links are connected and good, check your battery cables / connections, check all your grounding straps from the frame to engine to body, check all of your fuses in the fuse block, check all of the wiring harness connectors. If all that checks out, your ECU relay could be shot as far as the computer goes. As also suggested, check your clutch / neutral safety switches. If you still have issues turning the engine over or otherwise, next things to check are the starter solenoid and ignition switch.

Alright, I have had some steps in the right direction. I replaced the solenoid it was only like 8 bucks to do it so I figured it could be a quick cheap try. I am now getting my engine to turn over and try to start. It will start actually. When is does start I have encountered another problem..... I have to constantly at a very fast rate tap the gas peddle to just keep it running. I have replaced the IAC and EGR recently. I have also replaced the O2 sensor. I think I have the right one in there for an 87 bronco V6 2.9L 4x4. Should be a 3 wire heated correct? Now where do I go. I have a new fuel filter that I can put on but I do not suspect it is clogged or dirty. Any advice or recommendations will be greatly appreciated.

Now that you've got it to start, I'd probably put a fuel pressure gauge on it to make sure fuel delivery is where it should be. I'd probably also pull codes from the computer to see if the computer reports any problems that may help in diagnosis.

Pull codes x2. Check for vacuum leaks. You may have another sensor (MAP, ECT, IAT, TPS, etc.) that is on it's way out, a vacuum leak, or could be that your idle stop is not set properly. The O2 sensor should be a 3-wire heated one, so yes, correct. Check fuel pressure X2. Also, pull the vacuum hose for the fuel pressure regulator and see if it is wet with fuel. You may also want to check your intake plenums and throttle body and all that stuff for leaks - if it's sucking in air where it shouldn't be, it will run funny.
