i have a 1987 f 150 with a 300 engine and i want to take the cadlyic converter off and put something on it to sound alot better. I was wonder what would you recomed that i put on it? And how much money will it cost me for everything from labor to the parts ruffly?
well the most obvious and cheapest and simpilest would be a straight peice of pipe. but might not sound the best. you can get glasspacks which will run you about anywhere from 10 to 40 dollars depending on the kind/quality. I personally really like the sound of flowmasters but the price is way up there (i got mine for free) not sure on the curent prices. maybe that 76Ranger guy will fill us in
The best sounding exhaust for a 300 6 is to cut off or knock out the rear of the two cats then put in a Y pipe and straight pipes to Some nice chrome 3 1\2 x 24 angle cut tips. I had this setup on my 87 300 6 and I loved it. It was perfectly loud. All my friends were jeolous. The setup I had was a straightpipe kit from JC whitney that came with glasspack tips. (they really sucked) I didn't like the sound so I knocked out the rear cat. It was still to quiet. Then I put on the chrome tips. Getting rid of the glasspack tips made all the difference. The total cost was 150 for the kit and 40 for the tips. My buddy just had the local exhaust shop put the same straightpipes and tips on for him for 200. I figure that is what you would have to pay. Hope this helps
