I'd say fix it, then test drive it and if all works out buy it if the seller will let ya try to go that route. Do you know anything about the seller? I doubt it, but theres a chance you can fix that and have something else seriously wrong with teh truck. Hard to tell when it doesnt run. Maybe take it for a ride with the popped plug for a short distance just to get a quick ride and feelf or it?
the price seems preety darn good, I'd just be careful.
You can do a TimeCert insert. I have down two on my 2000 EX. The first one took a little longer as I learnd how to use it second time less than an hour. I paid around 400.oo for the kit. I bought one for my wifes BMW I found teh place in CA that is listed on teh TimeCert site was the cheapest.
Well,,saying "Put a Cummins in it" is not really helping,,,lol !
I would however,, like to hear from some who have done the "timesert" plug fix on the Triton engine,,,I have read there instruction's and it seems pretty straight forward.
I dont know anything about the guy,,he said he had the Excursion for 4 yrs,,,went to Kansas twice and Florida once with the truck from the NorthEast,,said with 8 people in it and all kinds of stuff got around 14 mpg on the trips,,ran good till the popped plug,, he also mentioned he put a set of manual hubs on it, because one day,, one hub would not engage.
If you have any questions about the Timesert ask away. The Ford V10 is a a little harder to do than others. The hardest part is to keep the chips out of the block from cutting the new hole.
I used a Calvin insert on mine. I have a 2000 with 223 thousand on it and the rear plug on driver side blew out. I was 40 minute away from home when it happened. I unplugged the injector and coil and drove it home. Now the insert was real easy to install but I don't know if I had multiple proplems happen at once or not. Before this happened the truck ran great, no vibration at all from the motor now I have a bad miss and something that sounds like lifter rattle coming from the passenger side of the motor and the check engine light is on. I am going to put a scanner on it this weekend and see what it tells me. Tell me if I am wrong but I have heard that week coils can make my motor run the way it does?
