Please xplain catback sys VS muffler
OK, now im totally lost. Can someone please explain the advantages or disadvantages of a full cat back system vs just changing out my muffler. I have a 01 5.4 F250 and i want my truck to have a better sounding exhaust than the stock, a little more power would also be nice, but I probably wouldnt get that without changing my cat and headers, if im understanding all this correctly.
My main goal is to produce a nice low and mellow rumble, nothing earth shattering. Im looking at the Flowmaster 50 series. Can someone clue me in on how to best achieve this without having to take a home equity loan out? What is the purpose of a full blown cat back system? Does it add much more power than just a muffler even though im using stock headers and cat? Or will I achieve the desired results with just the purchase of a simple muffler?
Thanks all

Then I talked to a local shop and he said it wouldn't make a difference which one I choose. He said the cat provides the real back pressure and basically the exhaust will just change the sound. He also said it is alot easier to replace a cat-back system rather than just the muffler, especially if you don't like the muffler, because the old cat-back can be put back in whereas with the muffler, pipes have to be cut. Then, if you switch to another aftermarket muffler, the other pipes will require more work to make it fit. Getting the answer I need is making me crazy. I was also thinking about going with the Delta 50 series. But the Gibson exhaust seems really good, too. Guess the only way to know is just try it.Do most people purchase the products from performance shops (Summit) and then have them installed by a shop?

I dunno what to do!, Im thinking of going with the Gibson Duel Sport Truck exhaust, looks good, seems easy to install as I wont be dealing with rusted bolts as my truck only has 10K on it (and i been spraying the clamps with penetrating oil once a week for when i do get a system). They say this system is a little louder than the Swept Side Exhaust. Expect 4 to 6 decibles in the cab....great....whatevver that means! I dunno how to pick an exhaust that will give me a nice sound. Has anyone ever used the Duel Sport Gibson catback on a 5.4??? Again, I dont want "blow out yur windshield loud" just a deep grumble. I did decide this much, I am going with a full catback system as it does seem to be the easiest solution. If I buy just the muffler, and then pay a shop to make it fit into my stock pieces, for the labor money I could get a full catback sys and install the thing myself.
