Hyperutectic = Balancing?

I am rebuildind my FE that started life as a 71 360 well after asking your opinion and doing quite a bit of research I have started getting parts together 390 crank and rods new heads but this thread is pertaining to the pistons I want to use which are h395p's they are a hyperutectic piston and to my understanding are quite a bit lighter weight than stock! So it seems to me this will mean I will have to have the engine balanced? Just wanted your expert Frickin' Engine advice!

I usually take peoples advice but you know sometimes people don't always give good advice and if you don't do your own research you end up still not knowing anything and just being another person who thinks they have what they want because thats what someone else told them they wanted!!!! They have no Idea in the first place!!!! I had a set of reconditioned C7AE-B found for $136 and missed 'em! Oh well I'll find somethin? I will just have it balanced good call, its the right thing to do!

The hyper -t pistons are the same as original and if you buy Ford OEM you won't have to balance the assembly. I would always recommend it though. The 390 is an internally balanced engine, meaning there are no added weights in the dampner or flywheel. I strongly recommend that if you balance the assembly that you specify that you want the flywheel and dampner zero balanced. That way if the flywheel or dampner have to be replaced sometime in the future it will not upset the balance of the engine.

Good point Mel, as long as you get the new parts zero-balanced too. Balancing "to the assembly" is not always a good thing.

Roger that. As long as a replacement flywheel is a direct OEM part it would be ok to use it until to could be balanced, as in an emergency situation.
