if your egr cooler isn't broken, then why not just block off the Exhaust gas going to it.?

Thats what I want to do, just wish it was as simple as just undoing the clamp, sliding the blocker plate in and then clamping it back up.

Why isn't it? I have an o4 and that is what I am going to do. I thought 03's were the same.

It is that easy. Just purchase the plate and uinstall it. It will block the exhaust from going to the cooler.

Not to question you but, I thought if you just wanted to put in the block plate you did not have to take this all the way out. I have an 04 and am just putting in the plate and did not think it was this involved.

the up pipe has to come out in order to block it off. Besides, there's a gasket in there at the cooler inlet and a mating collar. It's not just "flush" mounted at that union.
It's really not that hard of a job.

I just had this happen to me. EGR Cooler failed is what the dealer told me. Coolant bottle over flowed eveywhere with a mixture of what looked ike oil and coolant. Bad news!
