Fuel gauge issues
I have been having problems with my fuel gauge. Most of the times it appears to be dead. However, in a blue moon, I get a reading that appears accurate.
(1) Do you think the float is getting stuck?
(2) Is it best to change out the sending unit?
(3) Other things that I should check first?

You might want to check the wire connections at the sender first. After that I would disconnect the sender feed wire and hook it to a good ground. Next turn the key on. The gauge should peg on full. If it does your problem is most likely the sender. If it doesn't the problem is in the gauge or wiring.

F100/350 ~ 1961/77 Fuel Tank Sending Units & Float
The float is made of two pieces of copper soldered together, solder breaks down, fuel seeps in, float slowly settles towards the bottom of the tank.
The float is still available from Ford.

fuel guage
I had the same problem. Other guages did the same thing, however. A radio noise suppressor choke is wired inline between power and the instrument voltage regulator. only 2 volts leaving volt reg.. removed choke and problem fixed. (and no radio noise)

The sources I posted have original Gen-U-ine Ford parts.
Where do the parts come from that NPD or LMC supposedly have?
The float, prolly from FoMoCo as it's still available. The senders, if they have any, are prolly repopped...in China.
