new 2009?

hi everyone long time reader here dont post much but here goes.i currently own a 06 lincln mark lt ,bought new in 07,21000 miles and drives like a dream.i have seen and read about the new 09 and was really impressed.today i went out and test drove at three different dealers, all top of the line lauriats 2 had 20 inch wheels and one had 18,s and i must say i was not really impressed with the ride.now its cold here in the northeast and thought maybe over a few miles the ride would improve but i must say i was dissappointed.the thing i did like alot was the new layout and all the tech stuff and the tranny seemed real smooth, as far as power i feel no discernable difference between my lt and this new truck,i mean there is only a 10 hp difference between the new and old motor. another thing i noticed is how the cab seems more foward than mine, had difficulties reaching the seat belt after setting seat but i did like the seat return feature when you get in or out and liked the tri coat white,my lt is sandstone so i like the light colors.overall i think ill keep my mark lt

The only LT i been in was a used x dealer car and to honest it drove just like all the other lariats i test drove. Not sure if the LT's have anything different in the design compaired to the lariats but my 09 rides a lot better than the lt or lariats i have test driven. I also have the 20's but the longer rear leafs and retuned front coils combined with the quiter ride makes it feels quite a bit better to ride in that the 08's. Not that the 08's were bad or anything. But the platinum now takes over from the lt so it may be better for you to try a platinum to compaire.

Were both trucks the same wheelbase? I have test driven both the longbed Supercrew and the shortbed and found the longbed seems to ride a little better as most longer wheelbase trucks do.

May be something with the suspension tuning. I guess what I was asking was about the wheelbase. The Supercrew is available in both longbed and shortbed so they have different wheelbases. If I remember right Bsimmer3000 has a longbed Screw and it probably rides better than a comparable shortbed ( Bsimmer3000 please correct me if I'm wrong) as was the case with the trucks I test drove. Point is, You might want to make sure of the wheelbase as it can make a difference in how the truck rides.

Thats correct Powerstroke. Screw with 6.5ft bed. I did hear that the Platinum rides a little harder than other 09's because of the extra leaf and 20's but i think the longer leafs more than make up for the stiffness. But still it felt like it was a lot better than rideing in the Mark LT with same bed size.

You will probably notice a ride difference between the 18s and the 20s. The 20 inch tire has a shorter sidewall therefore doesn't have as much flex between the tire and the rim. It will tend to ride stiffer than the 18 inchers.

Plus i think all the trucks that have 20's have the extra rear leaf. Also if they have the max trailer tow they will also ride a little worse than witout it as they also have the extra leaf.

It's my impression that the Platinum is designed to cut against the LT. If one is driving an LT then test drives a lesser equipped / luxurious truck, the ride will definately be different. Likewise if your buying a 4x4 truck with 20" wheels then you should expect it to ride like a truck if you expect it to work like a truck. I've owned a vehicle with the lower profile sidewalls, the larger wheels look great and handle excellent, but they tend to offer a less supple ride than than a 17" wheel / tire combo.

i've got an 07 lariat with the 20's . the only point i'd like to make is air pressure is critical . ford recomends 35 psi in mine . i can feel the diff between 35 and 36 . and forget those dollar pressure guages from walmart. i bought a $40.00 guage from snap on to be sure. sounds like a lot of fuss , but the truck out handles most others shod this way . if i get an 09 , it will have the 20's .

I'd have to agree...i drove a platinum the other day...and i thought it rode a bit rougher than my 07.....but then again mine got a bit rougher when i put the 20's on.......

And the lt's i believe had different springs in them....

No the platinum is replacing the Mark Lt. Lincoln is no longer going to make it.

That would make sense. The LT just didn't do it for me. Lincolns features belong on a more of a car type vehicle, IMO.
