biggest wheel

I'm almost half way done with welding in the patch panels on the bedsides of my 78' f-150 and I wanted to know what's the biggest size wheels that will fit on the truck? cause I'm thinking about getting a set of aluminum wheels to put on the truck to replace the chrome steel wheels that i have on the truck now. cause i'm getting sick of have to polish the rust spots off of them ever time they get wet. anyway thanks for your help guys.

It's the size of the tire, not the wheel that matters.

There are guys with 22s and 24s lowered straight to the ground.

the stock 2wd F250s came with a 32" tire. this is equal to 235/85-R16. I'm not sure about F150, tho. probably the same thing. I have a pic of a 2wd F250 with 35s.

I think that i'm going to go with a 245/75r16. cause I was just at the tire store where I work and i put some different sizes up next to the truck and the 245's just seemed to fit right. plus they will only through my speedo off by 3mph which will be better. now I just need to find some aluminum wheels that I like to put on the truck and it should look pretty sweet.

That would be a 29 inch tire for the 235.

Up to 32" tires is ok, and 10.5" wide is fine, but will rub the arms when backing up. Not a big deal, but can get annoying for those quiet parking lots with everyone watching you.

You'll have to look in the gallery, hard to say what your particular preferences are.

Myself on my 74 I have gone from stock steelies, to chrome modulars, to chrome spokes, to Ford chrome OEM 1994 wheels and now I have gone full circle back to some old school steelies.

If you hated polishing rust spots off of steel wheels, you'll really hate pollishing aluminum! Yes, they are right when they say alum doesn't rust, but they don't say how it corrodes just as fast! If you go with an alum wheel, don't get a reguler polished alum wheel cuz youll take 2 hrs a week to clean them. Get something polished and cleared, machined and cleared, or I hear that the "super finish" stuff is nice also. Just make sure its coated with something, and if they're not, you could still powdercoat them clear. Or you can find a decent set of O.E.M. wheels off a newer ford so long as the bolt pattern and back spacing are ok. Factory wheels hold up very well with minimum maintenence.
