I have a 2004 F250SD FX4OFF Road with a ext cab and 8 foot body. The problem is a very poor turning radius. If you don't back in a new style cramped parking space it takes several tries. And if the space is tight for the other row behind one can't get back out. Had this problem in a motel parking lot in South Carolina this lot was empty when I parked but the next morn it was packed. Any one have a fix for this situation. It seems that it was corrected for 2005. I have a friend that has a 2005 FX4 that will turn tighter.
Thank you for any info.
Tips: try not to park next to anyone; park near the rear of the parking lot; the best spot is in a spot that has a curb on one side and a parking space on the other side...that way you can turn tight on the curb side and roll over it if you have to turn tight. another good tip is to just learn the dimensions of your truck. once you get good at maneuvering these things you will learn they fit into tighter spots than you ever imagined.
don't know if there is anything mechanical you can do to tighten the turning radius...get a smaller truck?
Thanks for the response. The reason for the large truck is to pull a 32 foot fifth wheel camper. There is just so many of the end slots which are usually filled. Around here they have curbs every where and make the slots for compacts not full size. Also the space between rows is kept tight also for compacts. Just don't have trouble with the trailer on just cross 6 slots and shut down. Need to get this to turn tighter.
Thanks
An alternative solution would be to weld 1/4 inch steel panels all around your truck and trailer... then you could just "crush" anything that is in your way! However, that will put you on the insurance companies "Top 10" wanted list... just kidding!
the reason ur trucks turns wider is ur front leaf springs..
the 05 and up trucks sit on coils with much better turning radius. so basicly there isnt anything u can do..
He nailed it. With the long distance between the front and rear wheels and the limited turning radius b/c of the leafs, the truck just flat can turn sharp.
I personally jump curbs pretty regularly. Even park on them sometimes, just depends on the lot. Plus the extra half mile walk from the back of the wal mart parking lot keeps me healthy
Thanks for the info. Just will continue what I have been doing. Back in or split 2 slots. Also the slots are getting shorter for long wheel base vehicles. At camp grounds we try to get pull thrus because the roads are also narrow for backing in.
