Sagging front end.

Guys I recently inherited my grandfathers F150. I believe it was a custom ordered truck. It's a 94 F150 Crew Cab short bed. It's got a 5.0 motor and auto tranny and is 2 wheel drive. Mechanicly the truck is pretty sound. But the one thing I'm not familiar with is the front suspension on these trucks.

But the front on this truck sits way too low. Is this common on 2wd trucks of this era? If so, what do I need to do to fix it. Any help is really appreciated.

They will tend to sag over time. Take a look at the front coil springs, do they have space between all the turns? Look at the top of the spring, as I think it's a variable rate spring and the coils are closer together at the top. If they are compressed together(touching), then likely they are sagging and causing a lower ride height. This will also affect your alignment as the I beams will then tilt the tire IN at the top.

These trucks normally sit higher in the rear, so unless the front tires are angled like this /--\ it's the way it's supposed to be. If you do have that problem the front coils are sacked, replacement is the only option. If you don't then the easier option is to lower the rear since raising the front requires camber shims and/or a lift kit to maintain correct geometry.. depending how high you want to go.
Note that the front suspension tends to do this /--\ when the truck has just been backed up, but should straighten up when pulled forward a bit.

I put a decent set of white Gabriel Ultras on mine a while back and it was a huge improvement overall. But, any good shocks will do, my truck is a real beater and the original springs are still good so chances are the shocks would help if your springs look good.

Thanks for the replys guys. I haven't had a chance to look at the springs yet, I'm a night shifter in the middle of my work week. But I am just looking for things to check. And I know the 2wd trucks sit pretty low in the front. But this one is way low. When I get a chance to look it over, I'll let ya know what I find. Thanks again.
