I think its his company thats getting it haha. Im betting they are looking at something that is cheaper then the others.
I know if I had to buy a newer truck, and wanted it to last me awhile, I would pony up the few extra bucks, and get a more expensive peterbilt. Less repairs on the side of the road (if you were trucking alot) would make up for the extra cost in no time.
Depend on how you use a dump truck Jack, mine have a fairly easly life cause I never push `em hard! The more I break the more I fix, the more it costs me......
i have seen some otr trucks get pretty beat up as well. like engaging the power divider at 65 miles an hour thats a no no, hitting deer will put one out of commission. my wife drove for werner and hit one head on broke the hood and cracked both windsheilds on her century she was driving. she had to use 2 cargo straps to hold it together. darn thing almost took out the a/c condenser/air to air cooler and the radiator. it leaned it back about 2".
scared her half out of her skin. good thing a state trooper seen it happen otherwise she would've lost her job over it. the guy was nice enough to help her out and escorted her on into the terminal in omaha where she was headed anyway for a service.
Not sure why someone would engage the power divider at high speeds like that. Ive seen it done by this one guy I used to work with. He is a terrible driver and every day he didnt get fired, I was amazed!
The first day of my vacation in December, an o/o had his truck towed into our shop. He was headed south on I-5 with a load of produce. Anyway, he loses oil pressure in Seattle rush hour traffic. He couldn't get over, so he kept going until somebody would let him over. Well, he blew his turbo, oil was pumping into the exhaust and pumped the sump dry. Engine ran away on him, one of his mufflers caught fire, the cab and bunk was black from oil falling down on it. And he locked his engine up once he got it stopped.
If he would have just shut it down when he lost oil pressure, he could have saved his engine. He wasn't moving anyway, being stuck in rush hour traffic. But he just had to get off to the side. Oh yeah. He never did get off to the side.
So that truck sat in our shop for 2 weeks until I got back to work. The amount of money he sunk into it for a used engine, he could have gotten a brand new re-con. But I don't make the decisions.
Sad story there Joe.
This sounds like the type of guy who just might lose his truck by not being able to keep up with the truck and repair payments. I`ve seen that happen.
i went to the now reclaim center an pulled pumpkin out of a wrecked truck same year same ratio i think 3.77 final. and installed it. and it was a shaker
do me and other techs this much donnot engage the power divider while moving! it will take the front diff out!
Congrats Jack, 1,700 posts in just over a year is pretty good!
