the cute guy at napa sent me home with the current performance and specialty parts catalog...after my dad got annoyed with the 20 minute discussion of downpipes, axle ratios, air intakes, and the legality of cat/muffler delete. he walked out but i got to spend lunch drooling over what my truck would have if i had a few thousand to spend on her
aforementioned cute guy also told me that at least at my napa up the road the price on the 6637 is going up 40% starting 1 feb, so i guess i better scrape together $$ and at least buy the filter itself before then even if i don't get around to installing right away.
ironically enough my dad was the whole reason we were at napa in the first place...i got tired of hearing about how his expedition was 4k mi past due for an oil change, so i dragged him out to get the stuff and i did it for him. i'm such a good daughter o: )
...would've made an entertaining show had anyone been around to watch, the old filter was on there good and tight- cracked it with my filter pliers and then oil burst out when i finally got it loose which made me drop it cause it got slippery...i made a huge mess but it was fun until i got in trouble for dripping oil on the brick walk...strike 2...strike 1 = leaving leaky fuel filter restriction sensor on the kitchen table a few weeks ago. ooops
tomorrow's agenda: change oil in the cummins for my sister who hasn't done it since june...shame on her! but nothing is where it ought to be so it takes me twice as long to accomplish anything on hers. i think she wants to kill her truck though...she wants a cold air intake for the extra horsepower...she's looking at k&ns...!
Katie.....slap her on the wrist...no k&n.....tell her look for a dry filter....even for the dodge
take a screw driver or a punch and poke a hole in the bottom of the filter and let it drain in the pan before you crack it loose....no more slippery filter
RubberDuck has the best idea on oil filter, use a tapered center punch to punch a hole in the filter the taper will keep if from leaking any oil till u get the drain pan under it then pull the punch out to drain filter less mess. If your drain pan is large enough you can drain filter and pan at the same time.
well the dodge has clean oil now...once i figured out where her filter is (in a totally illogical place) and that the bolt on the pan requires a socket and not a wrench. stupid dodge
yeah, in the future i will drain the filter on the expedition first too...knew to do that with my truck but i eyeballed the one on the expedition and thought, how much oil can there really be in there?? the answer: waaaay more than i thought lol
