Hello,
I picked up a 390 to replace a 351c that is in my 1978 f150 ranger.
This truck is going to get built into a bogger. The transmission is a np435 4 speed I think. but I am stuck because I do not know where to get a 390 bell housing for this tranmission or what I can put together.
Anyone have tips for me?
Thanks
Chris
Any bell housing from an FE engine family will work. You will have to be careful to get the correct fulcrum (pivot point) and arm for the throw out bearing whidh must match the rest of your assembly. It might be wise to get a Lakewood type scatter shield if you are going to rev over 5000 rpm.
Sounds good,
I just cant find a bellhousing for the FE Engine family that will go onto a NP435 all of them I have found are t-10 and what not..
Am I just over looking something?
I was also under the impression bellhousings interchanged between the manual transmissions Ford used. When I swapped the NP435 into my early bronco I used the bellhousing that was on the stock bronco 3 speed and had no problems, it bolted right up. I would measure the bolt patterns so you know for sure, or I'm sure someone on here will know and clarify it for sure.
Note in the second picture, the right side trans has 8 holes. The four outside holes are the same as the 4 in the left. Those outside holes should be the same as your old 3 speed and the NP435 you installed.
Thus, the NP435 should bolt to FE bells from '65 or so on. Note the other four holes in that transmission are the old 'narrow' pattern.
