I can get my 2000 7.3 into 4x4 but I cannot get it to go into low, any suggestions? I recently bought it and don't have an owners manual to help me either. Also, I have to lock the hubs in manually to get the front end to pull what is the likely culprit for the auto hubs not working?
Also, you can have a bind which will cause it not to shift the transfer case. With the trans in neutral, turn the switch to 4lo and gently tap the steering wheel side to side.
The auto hubs are controlled by a vacuum pulse. If the hose is rotted or leaking, then the hubs will not be clicked in. Firstly check the hoses in the wheel well, you will see three lines tied together. ABS sensor wires, Brake hose and Vacuum hose. The Vacuum hose is the rubber one going to the hub.
It could be the auto hubs are sticking... there is a write up on here on how to disassemble and grease the hubs.
I got into some loose stuff last night and couldn't get through it until I got out and engaged the hubs manually. I guess if one hub doesn't lock in automatically though then the one that does isn't doing anything either with an open diff... I will check my vacume lines tomorrow and see if that is it. And I will look for that wrie up.
