I bought some 48 inch white neon tubes for my truck planning to put them under the rails. Didn't work out the way I was hoping... my tonneau cover brackets didnt leave enough room. I ended up giving them to my friend who did exactly what I had planned. Wired in a switch to his rear parking lights and mounted the switch out of the way in the corner of the bed by the tailgate. Hard to see the tubes and lights up pretty well.

I used these lights on the new truck (shown in bed of old truck)

You can pick them up at Walmart and the box looks like this:

Old truck with lights on... I wired them the same way as the reverse light diagram with the following exception...primary trigger is the dome light wire for the relay and the secondary trigger is an in cab switch with diode.... so the lights come on when you hit the key FOB, or open the door, or if you turn on the interior lights using the dimmer switch. The seperate switch described above (secondary trigger) allows you to turn them on without having to turn on interior lights, or open the door.

i dont know if you have seen this before but i used the same lights. i found them at advance auto. i put two in the bed and two underneath. theyre installed the same way except i used an upfitter for a secondary trigger and the dome light as primary. his truck is a little taller. thanks for the info bear hunter. let me know if you have any questions, kengarchow.

I went the Wal-Mart route too. The standard small driving lights are about $20 and I hooked them up through the upfitter switch. They work great but don't have that cool custom look that LED or neon would give you.

I was thinking of trying the bed rail / cargo area LED light kit from Recon. Has anyone tried it?

I used two sets of 12" dual white cold cathode lights for computers to light up my truck bed. These lights draw little power and very bright. Easy to install as these lights run on 12 VDC and the kits included switch.

Here is the link: 12" White Cold Cathode Lights

Nice find!
They are currently on sale for $7.
Are they really bright enough?
What can you compare their output to?
Now, if I could figure out how to attach one on each side of the inside of my fiberglass cap....

H2oSprayer: I installed a set of those lights about a month ago. I got mine from PUTCO instead of RECON though. they look exact though. I like them a lot except there is a lack of light in the center of the bed. I just wired them up to the interior/cargo lights.
Corey.
