I spent $1,200 buying my truck. The most expensive part is the paint at $500 followed by the seat at just under that. Then the carb rebuild was $285 and the redone dash $240. After that it was some bearings here, brake shoes there, new master cylinder and some NOS parts that I acquired. I'll probably end up with about $3,500 into it and it will be as good as that one except the engine will be correct looking for the year. That makes the total around $4,700. Project trucks are no fun if you buy it and then farm the work out to other people...
I hope you will be happy with your $500.00 paint job.

Of course I will since I will be using PPG Concept single stage and know how to use it since I have been using PPG since 1991. I will post pictures of it since as of right now I am finishing up the body and filler work on the last piece before the DPLF epoxy primer, surfacer, block sanding and then color. The $500 is the material cost for the paint after my discount. Doing this work easily saves me around $5,000 and I will know it is right...

Thats a good paint system, no wonder your paint job is so pricey
Their industrial urethane works awesome for boats but thats all I have used so far. Its tough to use anything that isn't dupont or M.S. around here anyway. I figure I will only have $350 in the upcoming paint job (Emron).
Honestly, If I had to commission any work I would run out of money quick, I'm so poor I cant even afford to commission a plumber to chase a turd.
Imron paint??? I believe that is a polyurethane paint used mainly in the aircraft industry and for fleet vehicles. From what I have heard that paint is quite hard after application which can be good and bad. Some say that makes it hard to chip and others say easy to chip. However most agree it is hard to repair after being chipped.. Also very hard to color sand and buff out if not done in the first 24 hours and only for runs or sags not the whole panel. There are other newer paint systems out there now that are more forgiving of imperfections. Don't know too many people who would use it on their car body except one guy who used to paint planes so that makes it obvious...
Damn, I turn 55. Then I am asked if I am 55 or older for discount purposes. Now I see that after 500 posts I become an elder user. Now all I need to do is become a grandfather. Well, at least I can say that is not going to happen since I have never had children...Ha! Of course, my first one is due in March...OMG!
congrats on the upcoming addition to your tree...as for Imron...it is a PITA to do right...and all you said in prior post is right...an additional bit of truth...airplane painters...they dont have as long of a life as other painters...due to the toxicity of the stuff...I forget what is said about how much it shortens ones life, but it is significant...

It is NASTY stuff. You really need a fresh air system to keep from ruining your lungs. I have a good respirator only but it does the job if its a nice day and I shoot outside. Its strong paint, I like to shoot it over Nason lacquer primer. It takes abuse well, the trick is to get it to stick to the metal, and its very hard to fix goofs.
I knew a guy that shot all his paint in lacquers, then used imron clear over the top of it all. He had a few of the best custom paint jobs I ever saw and they held up well.
