engine surge
I read something about this in one of the threads the other day, didn't pay much attention my truck was running good ,now I can't find the thread. Anyone have any ideas on this? My truck runs good,morning starts are ok [runs a little rough for just a little while,not a lot of smoke].This morning was -27 c. On light acceleration the engine seems to surge back and forth or lag, it wants to go and then it doesn't. Seems if I step it all the way down it clears up.The engine doesn't run bad at all when this is happening .I'm changing oil tomorrow [mobil one 5/40 diesel synthetic] any thought on anything else to look for? Any help is appreciated.

Take a look at your EGR valve. What you've got going on kinda sounds like something that happened to my truck. Drove fine when cold, but when warmed up and under light acceleration it would surge a bit. Give it fuel and it'd go without problems. the EGR valve was cleaned out and the issue disappeared.
