Does anybody know anything about having the PCM flashed on a 1997 4.6 Ext cab 4x4 to correct detonation problems? If so, would a dealer still be able to do it? My truck runs good and is well maintained but I have detonation or"spark knock" almost all the time under accelleration, but mostly during cold weather. The MAF is clean, good plugs & wires, new fuel filter, clean EGR ports. Still has soriginal O2 sensors with 132K miles on it.
Yes. It has helped some at times but is not consistent. I don't want to consider that a fix even if it did help because the truck is supposed to run on reg. unleaded.
Have you cleaned your MAF? That might help. A lot of auto parts store carry MAF cleaner spray now and you can do it yourself easily. If you have questions about where, what or how just ask.
