Don't you love buying trucks with "good" motors "just needs lil work" they say. Bought a truck with 351w from a buddy. "Oil pump needs replaced" he says. Well I tore it out found twigs, dirt and grass in oil pickup tube. Decided to check bearings after that argggghhh got them to! Well time for the rebuild I didn't want to get into on this project! Lol
The need for an oil pump should have been a BIG RED FLAG! It seems like most people think that if there is low oil pressure, all it needs is an oil pump. Low oil pressure comes from low resistance to oil flow. Low resistance to oil flow is due to worn bearings in most all cases.
Well you are correct! Low oil pressure leads to bearing failure. I did see the BIG RED FLAG. And so did he. He said he shut it down when he saw the guage pulsate. My overlook was he probably caught after the failure had been taking place for sometime. I knew buying it I might have a complete rebuild. I was just ventilating instead of going and telling my buddy that his mechanic diagnosis sucks! After all he is letting me use his fully equiped shop to do my complete truck repairs. That way the wife is not on me for having another truck in the garage.
great friend you have there. if there was those items in the oil pan and pick up tube i would think the oil on the dipstick would look a bit milky and sludged up. Another indication that this was going to be a project for sure.
It never lost complete oil pressure and dipstick showed only old oil.(at least after sitting for 2 months) The Bearings was mostly lost to the foreign particles not heat. I will take a pic of the worst con and main bearing also the crank. I think it was scratched enough for a grind. That was the part i hoped to avoid!
