>Why is Ford working with GM to develop new transmissions?
>Aren't they trying to "one-up" each other, not help? OH NO,
>what if they merge? lol jk (At least we'd get some
>aftermarket parts, because you can practically build a GM
>from the ground up with them, can't find anything for my 93'
>with a strait six)
This is the oldest news in town. In the early 50's, before Ford knew how to build an automatic transmission that held up for more than 5,000 miles, they purchased GM Hydramatics for use on high-line Mercurys and Lincolns. For years, AMC's three-speed automatics were thinly disguised Chrysler Torqueflites. Even Rolls-Royce used GM automatics on Silver Clouds in the 50's and 60's. Jaguar used a Turbohydramatic 400 in their 12-cylinder XJS models....It's smart business, both for the company (saving money) and the consumer (better product).
