took off my muffler

I just got my muffler cut of at the cat. I really liked the sound i got when i did this. Took my truck to the Muffler King down the street to get him to put a strate pipe and a y pipe to my 2 tips. I was thinking that this was goin to give me a deeper sound. Well all it did was make it quiter . This really sucks. I wanted my i was hoping for a loud truck. Any options to what i can do now. I know i can take off my cats but i dont really know that law about it. Thanks all

took off my muffler

i was just fixing to go to the muffler place and get them to cut my muffler off and put straight pipes after the cats ,yes and i was very excitd about going to get it done is it weak and quite? you kno waht i mean a waste of time like you feel like you should have just kept the factory? does it sound like a girl truck i got a 5.8 i dont know if that would make the difference you might have the same engine..if you look in the recent topics i had one going that said exhaust help and a guy said something about a muffler i could slap on there that would make it deep and keep my 2 cats? but i dunno all i wanna know is if yours sounds bat or not

took off my muffler

Befor i got mine taken off i just cut the muffler off at the cat and wired it to the side. That sounded really good. I did not want to get a turn down, i wanted to keep my 2 pipes out hte back and just put the strate pipe in. I did this and it was like the sound went away. I dont know what the hell happened. Maby it was just because the tips are out the back and not right under me. I dont know but it seamed to get alot quiter after i got this done. Now i just want to take off my cats or gut them. I dont know. Thanks

i know how you feel, i have the same dad, always b**** about something that im doing to my truck, but anyways i went to a shop a couple of months ago and the dude told me that if i wanted good sound quality exhaust he would have to replace the 2 stocks with a single high flow cat, i think there 350 a pop online, and then everything is obvious fromt there what every you want glass packs, regular muffler you decide, but 700 dollars worth of stuff on my exhaust was not what i wanted, but he said he could just chop the muffler off and run straight pipes with echotips. have you tried getting someone to rev it up for you and you stand outside the truck and see what it sounds like? that may be the case, its just farther away from the cab, i mean can you even hear it anymore? well a single high flow converter would def. be your answer your just going to have to throw some cash down, and then straight pipes after that will be really really loud

I was lookin at a hige flow cat online for about 140. Would this really make a huge difference. Ill go stand behind it and get someone to rev it for me to see if there is a difference. Thanks for all the input and would a single high flow cat in replace of 2 make a really big difference or could i just hollow them out.
Thanks Rudy

oh hell yeah it would make a difference, thats why its so damn quiet and cost so much to fix it if you want something behind the converters, for some reason ford decided to put 2 cats to make it really really really quiet, i cant even hear my truck when its running man, taking the muffler helps alot, those factory cats are the most restrictive cats ever made, they are like 10 mufflers (exaggeration) the first muffler does something with the oil or gas like heats it up or something for better emissions ( i dont know) but i wouldnt just cut the first one off because than you would be messing with the backpressure, so if you want a hick truck def. go with the single high flow converter, it will be loud loud without a muffler, you will prob end up putting glass packs on for a small price to quiet it down a little , but the converters are like monster mufflers

oh yeah and make sure that hgih flow cat fits your truck good, im glad you posted or i might have made a mistake, but you could be overreacting because usually you cant hear the exhaust in the cab real well unless its really loud but you can hear it fine outside.

god i hate those things. they **** me off so much. Whats up with the backpressure thing anyway. I really dont understand it. The way that i look at it is if there is no backpressure there would be more power or is it the other way around. I know there is some way to tune it just right. Im lookin for that way and i have yet to find it. Thanks for all the input.

i dont know i just know if you dont have enough backpressure it does something bad haha, you could have gutted your cats and kept your muffler, but if you gut your cats out your def. going to have to get a new muffler. now back to what you did, im a city boy, into slightly big tires (32x11.5's) little body lift and a fat subs. im dont want to wake the dead just turn heads a little bit, you know hey he has a big engine in his truck. wll your setup be good for me?

heres a post that has to do with back pressure :
Ok poeple Im tired of peopel saying you dont need any back pressure what so ever, thats LIE you need some to get the enige to run, too much is bad yes not enoupgh also bad, think of it in terms fo riding a bike,, Back pressure is the amount of pressure the pedeals give you to turn the chain and make the wheels turn,, if you had no back pressure you would just sit there spinnign the pedeals and the tires woudl nvee get movin,, if you had to much id be like pedealing but theres so much resistence that you cant even move the pedeal. I knwo everyone knows about trucks and engines ans what not, but backpressure is common sense we should all know about back pressure

It would be an alright set up but i would want my truck to be really loud. I think that if you want to turn some heads get the muffler cut of and get a turn down right out of your cat. Thats what i should have done. I liked the sound i got when i just cut the muffler off. Thanks for the input.

what does it sound like with pipes, does it have a popping noise to it?
