eatmysmoke,
I am going to refrain from sharing my opinion on blowing smoke. Whatever....

But I will say that no one should, with any certainty, be telling you how much to turn up the IP. It would be one thing if you planned to pull and needed the power but to just blow smoke its not worth it!!!! You need a pyro. The freaking $100 or whatever it costs is better than frying your engine.

If you chose to not listen the guys will be here to walk you through how to fix the stuff you break.....

Thad

you really should get a pyro, i mean yes you can turn the thing up without one but every time you stick your foot into it your at risk, mine has also been turned up and i dont have a pyro, but i never lug my engine and i try to keep the rpms up and try to keep the smoke from being as black if im comming up a mountain, but i know that every time i step on it just to see it cloud traffic out im paying for it at the pump and if i melt my pistons then im really paying for it, but i love to roll up next to people and put the hammer down and see the expressions on there face but i also know that i can damage my engine

2 flats is the most you should ever go with these engines. I talked to a guy who rebuilds the injection pumps on these trucks for a living and he told me that the #1 reason why they go out is due to it being turned up way to far.

I have turned mine up 2 flats, but i also have a pyrometer and a boost gauge.

mine still smokes way to much, but i am working on that, i will eventually upgrade my turbo, and put an intercooler on it, that might be a little tricky but i would clear up the smoke.

Mine seems pretty happy with two flats and 10 psi, even on the big mountains.

He is about 40 miles north of me.
I am working about 3 miles from his house right now.

We have about the same for mountains where we live, when I hit the bigger ones I am heading home to see my folks on the eastern side of the state.
