Just to be sure about these specs I wanted to make a post regarding them I've got 360 rods at 6.57" and 390 Rods at 6.488" Is this correct? The distance from the crank center to the deck of the block is 10.17" correct?
do you know the lengths of other popular fe's? i.e. 428, etc?
They are all the same length except for the 352 and 360 which used the longer rods. 390-406-427-428 all used the same shorter 6.480 rods. Now there are different size rod bolts/nuts used on some hipo and CJ rods but the rod itself is the same as std FE rods other than the machining protocol callouts. There is also the factory LeMans rods which used tri-lobe capscews. Also a factory NASCAR rod and forged crank which used wider rods/journals. New Scat and Eagle capscrew rods are arftermarket. And of course the BBC journal size strokers. Lots of options. Piston pin height differs from the 390-427 to the longer stroke 410-428's. So the same length rod can be used for either 3.78" or 3.98" stroke cranks.
Yea Russ I change it up every so often. I didn't think the 572" BBC conversion would go over well here so we did a Pimento 4 banger. I do remember a few wicked Pinto's on the street back in the day. One with a 427 and the other a 429 with a tunnelram. My car has the 390 in there now and it runs great as is. The 452" is still on track and will replace the 390 when finished. I'm also collecting other parts for the car as I find deals on them. Like one big puzzle. But without a lot of aftermarket parts made I have to grab some things when I see them.
You can still buy those from Hot Wheels. I have one here and a bunch more I've collected the last few years. HW's has made lots of the old popular cars again. Yep the 67-68 body is a nice one.
Can you use the 360 rods with a 390 or 427crank I have 74 360 thinking of changing the crank was bored so .03 over recently before I got it the head have been done have the intake headers and crab already so just need the cam and crank or should I just leave it as a 360 I just going to be a driver what think 360 with cam headers intake will the extra inches make that much difference

You can use the 360/352 rod on top of the 390 crank, but you need to use the 390 pickup piston. (which is actually the '66-'67 Mercury 410 piston) And a suitably thick head gasket.
This is a second choice solution to the low compression situation. Usually if you find a 390 crank you will find the rods as well. For more discussion, check this out starting at page 5 post 63:
As for your question about doing it or not, or if the 30 cubes makes a difference: 1) I'd do it with your money 2) 30 cubes makes a difference, but the way the motor is built will make more.

One of the past members had a shop use 360 rods on his 390 crank. If I remember it right, the longer rod was good for about 1/2 a compression point. He was pretty upset the shop did not know the difference. If you ever see a 360 rod next to a 390 rod, you will see why people just don't do that.
All that aside, a 390 crank and rods will do wonders for your set up.
