Headers

Does anybody know if Doug Thorley Headers (Part #218Y) will fit an 03 2wd "X" V10? They list them as a F-250,F-350 2wd and 4wd fitment. I can get a set right now for $150 brand new (retail for over $900). The guy that cermaic coats all my headers has an extra set and wants to get rid of them.

I'm certainly no expert, but most of my speed shop buddies recommend against headers unless you're racing. They tell me that they're too much trouble for daily drivers.

I haven't had any trouble with mine. I think where they are coming from is the cheap headers use a thin flange which warps easily, plus you need to tighten the bolts several times after installing headers.

I'd have no reason to expect the Superduty headers not to fit on the excursion. The shorties cross platforms. The tri-y design is mid to full length, I'd suspect the worst case being some tweaking of the exhaust system to line up.

The visually look like they will line up. I will call Thorley in the AM and post my findings. Cheap headers are definately not worth the hassle but these are welll constructed and a good mid length tri-y design.

Since the front frame section is the same between the Ex & the F series, those headers should work nicely. Great score!! Does he have any more?

Just FYI. The Thorley part #218Y will fit the Excursions. You just have to specify if it has an EGR valve or not. Thorley sells them both ways.

Which means new headers for me!! WOOT

Are you also eliminating the Y pipe or doing any other exhaust upgrades? Just curious.

Also the factory exhaust manifold studs are crap on the Ex...when you install the headers do you also replace those studs?

Looking forward to the update.

Good luck!

Joe.

The headers come with a new Y-pipe and bolt to the stock three bolt flange n the exhaust. I have not looked at the studs yet but I will let you know when I do the job. I am alos going to modify the Thorley Y-pipe from a slip fit to a flange fit so I can remove it easier if I ever have to.
