help diagnose 4x problems, please
Guys, i have some issues with my 4x lo on my 2000 v-10...the dash switch will engage the hubs into 4 hi, but when i try lo, i get nothing....yes, i have it in nuetral and am holding the brake. i have recently replaced both front hubs with new oem ones, 171,000 miles on truck. also have a vibration or shimmy that is most noticable on the center console between the seats at highway speeds. which way to go to check it out? will have tires rotated and balanced tomorrow, then check u-joints.... additionally my dad also has a 2000 sd 4x4 v-8 that the 4x doesnt work at all on. i crawled under it yesterday to check vaccum lines, one was compleatly off, the other was cracked and loose. i cut the bad /split end off and re-attached the lines, also disconnected the battery to reset everything. and still nothing. of additional note tthe fuse for the trailer lights was blown, and when i tried to replace it, it snapped as soon as i made contact/dead short.....its a 20 amp fuse. that wouldnt affect the 4x4 would it? i have new vaccume line to put on it tommorow. his truck only has 70,000 miles on it, used mainly at farm/hauling hay and feed. sorry for rambling on but trying to resolve these issues....Thanks Guys

For not getting to 4LO, check the brake pedal switches. Does the cyclops (center) brake light work?
For the other one not getting any 4x4, does the dash light come on or not?

Krewat....i got mine straight, went out this morn and pulled the two relays by dist box and cleaned with contact cleaner. now it engages both 4x hi and 4x lo, although there is a definite "clunk". as for my dads truck- the dash lights come on at cranking with other idiot lights, but they do not light when i move the selector switch. thanks Britt

For your dad's truck, sounds like the servo or the relays (or fuses), or something else electrical with the transfer case. Even when the hubs aren't working, the 4x4 light should come on when the transfer case shifts into 4x4.
