Two weekends ago I put Warn Manual locking hubs on my truck. I was just reading another post on someone replacing their hub assembly. This reminded me to ask about my thrust washers behind the hub locking assembly. Mine were loose behind the C-clip. I could spin them around the axle shaft. Should they do this or be tight between the hub assembly and C-clip? This is probably a stupid question but the washers being like that did not seem right.
A little play is normal, about 1/16" or less. I don't recall a spec in the manual, but any more and you'll want to replace all of the washers, both metal and plastic. Too much end play will allow the seals to wear and dirt/water will enter the needle bearing in the hub.
