Plow upgrade question...
Ok, once again I'm over here asking questions. Before you guys refer me to www.plowsite.com, I have been there, and it seems like it's been twisting arms and breaking legs to get the answers from people over there.
Anyways...
I currently have my truck setup for towing, and am looking into the possiblity of maybe in October time frame (I know long ways away) installing a plow onto the front.
The Plow prep package from ford consists of:
computer selected front springs
heavy duty alternator.
I cannot get this package due to my current towing options. However I do have a package that adds:
Heavy Duty Service Front Springs
Will those springs be good for plowing?
If I need to upgrade to a heavier duty alternator, is there any suggestions, or should I just wait till then and see if i really need one?
Thanks
matt
I am surrprised you couldnt get the Plow prep and tow package . I got it on my 06.
For the front springs, You might take your VIN to a Ford dealer, They can give you a build sheet. You can then compare springs, or part numbers.
I just had this conversation with another person, who didnt think the plow package, matterd when Tow package was already there.
i will email my seller and hopefully they will be able to add it on... let me double check and see what i can do... i might try dropping one package for the other... i really wish they outlined exactly ALL that everything adds.... not most of it.

Both are great to have right out of the factory.
If I may I also reccomend the Truck being built at the Kentucky truck plant. I always try to get one there even if it is used.
Heavy Service Front Springs
Rear Stabilizer Bar
If you need to know the rest, let me know and ill fix the file so it don't have all my info on it.
Thanks
Matt
PS - Truck is being built at kentucky plant (so if you work there let me know and i'll send you an email of the pics once I get it)

The plow prep package usually comes with the heaviest rated front springs and probably a different cooling fan clutch.

the plow thing is a most likely, but I am going to be doing massive towing... so i need to make sure that the towing won't be hindered

I would also get the plow package. Your local dealer can even put the tow cammand brake controlls in, I wonder why they cant at the factory..
I dont work there, no but, I had a rock brake out my windsheild. I had a new one put in. (SuperDuty) at the top. I called down to the hall. I am a Teamster union steward, and The guy at the hall put me intouch with the line. I had them send me up a new window sticker, They also sent me up an extra, and a nice letter signed from the line men.
Union Pride cuts deep into my Heart. That is another example of solidarity amongs Brothers. They will build you a great truck.
I'll see what the people I ordered this through can do (they might not be able to add it in anymore, but I'm going to check)
Anyways I appreciate the help, and I can't wait to get some pictures up here of it and me (and everything else I got for it)
Thanks for the info (and the quick answering unlike the other forum)
Again...

Only the diesel engine gets the fan clutch, larger alternator, etc.
If I recall correctly, you are upgrading from 5200lb. springs to 5600lb. If you are planning on a heavy plow (1000lbs. or more) you might want to consider the 6000lbs. springs. The truck won't "squat" as much and the ride will only be slightly harsher. I have heard some guys say that there is no noticeable difference in ride quality
Heavy Service Suspension Package includes heavy service front springs (1-up upgrade above the spring computer selected as a consequence of options chosen; not included if maximum springs have been computer- selected as standard equipment) NOTE: Recommended only on vehicles which will permanently utilize aftermarket equipment such as heavy duty winches, brush guards or other apparatus which loads the front axle to the specified gross axle weight rating (GAWR) (not available with Snow Plow Prep Package, Camper Package or Heavy Service Package)
Snow Plow Prep Package (4x4) includes computer-selected springs for snow plow application, extra heavy-duty 200-amp alternator with Power Stroke_ diesel engine, unique fan clutch with Power Stroke_ diesel engine for improved cooling
They took the plow off and nocked off $4200.00 also
They must have stopped offering both packages on the same unit, or the Dealer wasnt well informed.
Culprit is essentially getting the same truck I got. This thing is a beast. With one heck of a payload and GCWR.
