Looking at an 8" lift and installing myself, however I do not have access to a hoist, any suggestions on how to get the truck up high enough safely to do the install?
My mom has a cherry picker in the garage I am not sure how big it is I was thinking of using that but not sure.
A cherry picker most likely is not rated for enough weight. The front end of these trucks is pushing 5000 pounds. Just jack it up as high as you can, get some 3-ton or larger jack stands to support the frame at least 30 inches off the ground, then pull the tires off and let the axles sag back down to the floor. That should give you enough room. When you are done, jack the axles back up and put your tires back on.
alot of Cement Blocks?? I lifted a shed by doing it a little at a time.
Make sure it is solid what ever you use
You might want to avoid the cement blocks. They've been know to crumble under compression like the weight of an SD front end on them. Normally, 4"X4" or in this case 6"X6" cribbing would work possibly.
X2 on on the 6x6 timbers. Lowes or Home Depot should have piles of 6x6 landscape timbers that would work fine. Build up a crib out of those, just make sure you use a solid 2x6 or bigger as the top peice of wood.
I did my 8 inch lift in a parking lot over the summer. We pulled it up to a 1 foot tall curb and jacked from the curb so we were able to get it tall enough. Just let the axle sag down as stated earlier. Then just jack from the axle to fit the tires on.
Another question I have is what is the difference between the early 99 and the ones made after march, cause some of the lifts I have looked at states that it wont work with the early 99?
