04 Lariate 4x4, my sons truck. We bought new now we have a question. The fuel guage is slow to show level after filling up. Does anyone know if its a sender or is it a dash cluster issue. I guess it works once it shows the fuel level its jsut slow getting to full on the guage.
Ya I had the same problem. But mine has only did it twice. Once in like October and once like a month ago. Both at the same gas station. Got a mile down the road and was like wtf. Took it anywhere from 10 minutes to a hour. Really weird. I have been meaning to ask the same question. A buddy I worked with bought a 06 f150 and his was doing the same thing. He had to take it in to get scratches fixed they said they would when they bought it. I was hoping to hear what it was but he got laid off that day.
what type of fuel are you running? big name brands or a local no name brand....I have found when i run one type of fuel where i am living it tends to make the gas gauge stick...but then i switched to chevron or shell and with their fuel additive that apparently cleans the system it no longer does that. Just a thought....
my truck does this if its cold and under 1/4 and also if i fill it up while running and the pump auto shuts off and i don't close the cap soon after. For example i let it fill up while i was cleaning windows i heard the clunk of the handle shutting off i finished windows and then i closed cap. It was fine for 5 mins then i heard a DING and it was the low fuel light then it took about an hour to go from E to F its done this about 3-4 times in the last 5 months. but all lead back to filling up while vehicle was running
my son says it happened a couple of times in the past but it recently has been happening more often. Says he has never refueled with the engine on or key on.
So this seems to be another idiosyncracy of the ford trucks I guess.
