Perkins

I'm thinking of bolting a 4008TAG1A/2A Perkins inline 8 cylinder diesel in my 250. Maybe thats the answer. Perkins is a proven engine, been around since before I was born and I'm a Vietnam Vet. We ran them in Thermoking reefers in the 60s. Will let you know in a couple of years the results. Also, Perkins is the British CATERPILLAR.

a 30.5 liter straight 8 that weighs 4270 kg(9400 pounds) in a pickup, or in the bed? Or, just bolt wheels to the engine?

CATERPILLAR owns Perkins You would be better to put in a 354,372,or a 6.0 1000series.Will fit in a pickup MUCH easier. nand better MPG.

Well, I'd do it but I heard today that fuel was going back up to 3.50/gal. One thing tat stope me is CAT engines are double what an International is.

Double the cost, that's for sure. I can get a running DT466 for $1000. Try to find a 3116 or 3126 for that.

Ran a 3406E but parts for a rebuild are as much as airplane parts and CAT gets all kinds of Govt incentives. Is anyone aware of the fact that CAT can trace any engine they have built recently in the US, maybe in the world and tell how many hrs, faults and where it is? Thats what ORBCOM does.

And how, exactly, do you plan on fitting a 4008 between the framerails of an F-250, when a 3406E won't fit?

Welder and cutting apparatus, prefer jaws of life. Next time my bro gets here, I'll measure his 3406. GOSH! I thought a Pete was the same width as a Ford. If you think they aren't, drive one 1.5 million miles, They get smaller every day even with a big sleeper.

I used to get my best sleep between Cheyenne WY and Lincoln NE but the road got curvygoing E.

sure it will fit .Put a body lift and move the cab back and make a extended front clip.It would be interresting. What trans you plane on useing.

Rockwell 15 spd and a hydraulic pump attached, that way when I go to LA I can show up the lowridersWEight isn'nt a problem. I'll run some 11-22 hi profile Michelns. Fuel is still the major problem but with 300 gal I can go at least to CA and back to Indy before refueling. How would I register it? As you can tell I'm bored, we don't have any work for the Belgians and it's 30 and windy outside.
