Hello folks proud owner of a 2000 f350 super cab dually 4x4. I was curious what would be the best way to clean the engine up? It's not a big oil mess or anythin like that just some dirt and dust was wondering if it would be pressure washer safe or just rinse it off with the hose. Thanks Jason
Congrats on the truck Jason. Get you some simple green, spray all over the engine, let sit for a while, then use a water nozzle to rinse off the dirt/oil. If you have some stubborn spots, use a paint brush to help it clean.
Like Rick said, it works great. I would add that some(me included) will cover the alternator and PS pumps with a plastic shopping bag, before rinsing, others do not. If you do decide to, don't forget to remove them before starting.
I use the the purple cleaner and have followed that with both the pressure washer and the garden hose. Now that it is clean I just use the cleaner and hose to keep that way. An old mechanic who worked for my folks service station used to say when you wash the outside, wash the engine otherwise it's like taking a crap and not wiping your a$$, you only did have the job. Sounded like good advice to me.
thanks guys i appreciate the responses yeah i'd hate to get it wet and have to work on somethin that wasn't broke haha thanks again and i got some mods to do
The thing you have to be careful with pressure washers with these trucks, and especially steam under pressure is, it finds a way into the darnedest places. And some of these connections do not respond that well to moisture in them. The simple green or similar cleaner and a garden hose does a tremendously good job of cleaning them. Take a look at Ricks gallery. You could eat off his engine.
Thanks for the complements guys. I will be spending more time on the engine, now that I don't need more power. . I will try to get the undercarriage to look like new too.
