Hi,
I was changing my fuel filter. I followed guzzle's instructions (or at least intended to), but I forgot to close the valve before turning the ignition on. I cleaned up the mess, closed the valve, and turned the ignition on a few times. I noticed that sometimes it would sound like the fuel pump was speeding up, almost like there were air bubbles in the line. I went around front and noticed that there were little streams of fuel spraying out in two spots between the filter cover (I got a one-piece filter, unknowingly) and the rim of the fuel bowl. What could I have done wrong? I am 99% sure that I installed the beveled Oring withthe bevel facing the right way, I did tighten it once, then loosen it again to make sure the rim was clean.
Thanks, I'm really embarassed to have to admit to such follies.
Oh. I just used diesel. I undid everything, and it was all correct. I'll try motor oil. The directions from the filter say to tighten it until the lid touches the base, is this correct?
there is a particular Wix filter that has a beveled o ring that will roll and let fuel pour all over the engine. If the o ring has an angeled edge to it, tmake sure it has the flat edge against the filter top and when you close it - make usre you lube it with fuel and pay close attention that it does not roll on you. Or go get a Fram filter without the beveled egde on the seal.
It happened to me and a guy pulled up next to me early one morning, pointed to the underside of my truck and I looked in the side mirro and saw nothing behind me. There was huge cloud of gray and the whole freeway was empty behind me. No one but this guy would drive through the cloud. It was dark out when I started driving.
Pulled over and fuel was pouring off the back of the engine like a garden hose was left on.
Hey guys,
YAY! I used motor oil, 5 cycles of the fuel pump and I'm leak free. I do still hear the fuel pump pumping kind of irregularly though, is this normal?
Thanks, you guys are amazing! Even the filter instructions said to use diesel.

Good deal on the fix. Your pump may sound off because of air in the fuel bowl.
Yeah, its around 30* I think its air inthe fuel bowl, because it sounds like the pump is pumping air bubbles. Do you think I should charge my batterie(s) overnight, could I have killed them with all the pumping?

Try and drain and refill the fuel bowl a couple of times to purge out and air. I doubt if the FP would kill the batteries. Now the GP will. Throwing it on the charger won't hurt any.
Oh man. talk about let down. I jsut drained it (just opened the valve) and turned the ignition on and there was a leak again. Only one little stream this time. I am tightening it in a somewhat way. I put a screwdriver against one of the fins onthe lid and tap it with a hammer. I don't have a fuel filter wrench big enough. Anything else I can try?
