Whats up, I have a 99 f150 4x4 off-road and i put true duals on it without mufflers, man does this truck growl in the morning but one thing. The crackle sound that i love so much kinda fades away. I wish there was something i could do. After a few minutes it tends to fade then i get a deep tone sound and it still has that crackle just a lower tone, but not as loud as i would want it. I was wondering if I could put cherry bombs on it and make sound louder, or if any one has any ideas please man , tell me , ford truck guy in distress.
The reason your crackle gets quieter is because your cat heats up. When it heats up it tends to quiet it down. My buddy had a 97 ranger 4 banger. When that thing was cold it had the sweetest crackle, but after about 5 min it was quiet. Still there but quieter. Putting cherry bombs on would only make it quieter. A cherry bomb is a muffler, its loud compaired to a stock one but not louder than straight pipes.
Ohh one other thing. IF you wanted it louder the only way you can do this is to cut off the cats, but you cant because you have a o2 sensor after the cats that monitors how they are working. If you got rid of the cats or the sensor you will mess up the cumputer and get wrong air fuel mixtures. The only thing to do is to get high flow cats. They help a little.
excellent, I will have to start to save up, do you know how much any place would charge to put on headers, if I bought them and brought it to them to put on, also I am thinking of putting on edelbrock headers.
it depends. IF you know someone that would be a plus. Thats how i get my inspections thru a good family friend. It would prob cost about 200. Do you have any friends that are mechanics that would help. It wont be to hard on a 99 bacause the bolts wont be to badly rusted or froze in. You can get the highflow cats tru summit for 59 bucks not a bad price.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 17-Jun-02 AT 04:23 PM (EST)] Hey , I looked underneath my truck and I saw four cats,
Two on each side, on small one without the sensor and then the other one has the sensor on it, thats the big one. What would happen if i took the 2 small ones out of there, without the sensors on it. Its in front of the big ones, actually the ones right after the headers, then comes the big ones.
my friend has a 99 f150 4x4 with true duals and glasspacks but he said the muffler dude said his truck was made from the factory to have duals if wanted or something
Ummm dont really know for sure. But i think that it would give fulse readings. If you replaced the two cats with one cat and put the sensors back in the pipe you should be fine. The sensors could be put in right after the cat. Is there a sensor after the cats where the factory pipes used to y back together. What you are saying is that there is two sensors after the cats. Look ahead of the cats too. THere should be two before and two after the cats.
if my memory serves me correct u have 2 cats and 2 resonators, one of each on each side, check with an exaust man on this but a resonator will quite the cackle way down when it gets hot and the packing fluffs. check it out and tell me what u find out id like to know just how wrong i am.
hope it helps
Evan
okay, About the megaphone tips, I found some chrome power tips for my truck for about 12 bucks, i really think how it is cool how it has the glass pack inside the chrome tips, why is this so. Does it make it louder and give it a deeper tone, or could it help with the loudness and crackle pop when im racing someone. Anyways Im still looking into the resonator cat thing, but i would think it doesnt have one but ill check. If you wanna take a look at those chrome power tips just look at http://www.cbperformance.com/catalog.asp?ProductID=405
I think it would look nice on my truck. I have a question about the chevy trucks, how come I see some trucks with true duals and have that deep tone and crackle to it( which i love by the way) and it sounds like a hot rod almost, i dunno if you know what i mean
he i say a truck sinilar to your and i would say thay you would be ok cutting off the first cats. But keep them if you do run into problems. I think that this will make alot of difference.
