yeah i dont know where i went wrong?? i got a 95 f150 351 with true dual exhaust. the cats are gutted and i cant get any flames... i took a 10 gauge wire and ran it straight to the battery.. then to a switch in the cab. after that its 18 gauge wire back to the 2 spark plugs.. im wonderin if that 18 gauge wire cant handle the juce needed for the plugs... i have current back to the plugs but no spark going through the plugs.. i cant see the spark or hear it.. any information will be apprecieated.. thanks
I dont know why but for some reason spark plugs will not fire unless hooked to a coil, i've tried everything, and thats all taht works, i havent put any on my truck yet, let me know how it turns out.
they wont fire without being hooked to a coil, cause the coil supplies the necessary voltage to make a spark plug spark, which is closer to 35,000 volts, not 12.

and that would be the technical explination. yes perhaps pyro, but i bet it picks up chicks.
I Mounted my spark plugs right infront of my 18 inch chrome tips. i talked to a guy today and he said that i needed a coil too.. makes me feel dumb.. he also talked about using a switch to shut off the main coil to pump raw fuel thru the engine without sparking it and let it get to the spark plugs in the back... that aughta let a nice flame out the sides..:-staun well ill try this and get back at ya
theres only one reason i wont try it... yet... and thats because i'm afraid to put burn marks on my paint. (my tips come out right infront of the wheels.
proabably would have to try it to be sure, but i think the speed at which the exhaust is flowing (and the carbon) would prevent the ignitor from working.
I could be wrong, but a 1995 motor is fuel injected and the computer will not allow the mixture to get rich enough to get a good flame out the back. And yes a coil or a step up transformer is required to get a spark to jump across the gap.
Awhile back I was looking through the web here and found a site that has a kit you can install to get the flames that you desire.
The kit kills the ignition but lets the fuel still run through the engine and of course out the pipes, where the spark plug is located 12 inches from the end, hooked to a second coil and ignites the raw fuel.
From reading the site you install this kit, start your engine, rev to about 3,000-3,500 rpm's, flip the switch, pump the foot feed, and watch the flames roll out the pipes.
I will come back tomorrow with that site for you guys.
