In case anyone might be interested, I recently had a unique problem with my Theft light coming on at unusual times. I would start my 99 Ranger (XLT 4x4 3.0) and sometimes the theft light would come on. The engine would start and run normally, but the light would flash, as long as the engine would run. If I shust it off and restarted, it would go off. Two dealerships told me that this was impossible, but bring it in and they would try to pull codes. After a few weeks of this I also noticed that it was happening when the temp would drop below freezing. The engine would also crank a little bit slower. I decided that I just as well put the battery in at my convenience, and the Theft light trouble also stopped. It's been two months now, and not another errant flash, and we have had below 0 weather. Apparently just enough of a voltage drop to mess things up. Who would have thunk it. For what it's worth. Ed
Good find, fix & feedback on the anti-theft problem the old battery was causing.
Old batteries who's voltage drops under load, & ground loops, can cause some unexpected & unusual results.
Thats why I've decided to replace my 9.5 year old OEM Motorcraft battery, thats been complaining on cold starts lately, so I'll replace it before it lays down on me somewhere on a cold winter day!!!!
The new Motorcraft battery is in the gararge, all charged up & waiting for warmer weather this Thurs, or Fri, when it'll go in!!!!
