What is a used fe engine worth?
Just starting to look and there seems to be a large price range even from salvage yards. I know like every thing there are certain models and years that are worth more, but all things being equal what should I expect to pay?

That is pretty much a loaded question. It depends on your market (how many are available) and the overall condition.
Also, check Craigslist, look at running vehicles also. I've seen more than a few beater trucks with good engines sell cheap because the owner won't/can't part out.

Definitely keep looking. You never know when that sweet-heart deal will fall out of the sky. You have to be in place to catch if you want to be "one of those guys" that people tell stories about. LOL

Bought a 71 F250 CS with a recently rebuilt 390 with 428 crank (410) for $500. So they are out there...

What are they worth? That is a loaded question.
332,352, 360 = not much
390 = a little more
410, 428 = still more
406,427 = much more.
Example: A complete running 360 engine is not worth as much as a 427 block.
