Remote Start

About six months ago I bought a used 06 PSD. Its a super cab lariat package. I use it primarity as a tow vehicle and it spends most of its time in the garage on a trickle charger.

I did an OASIS report before I bought and the only issue was a power steering pump replaced under warrantee. I had about 25,000 miles on it when I bought it but fairly high hours (made sense, the locality is subject to bad traffic). Now I treat it just the opposite - lots of long highway trips and almost no city traffic.

The only apparent mod that the prior owner did was a commercial truck type back up alarm. I have since added the upfitter switches and a relay so I normally have this off but turn it on when I want it.

The only thing I've been having trouble with is the apparent factory auto start. It uses the factory three button key fob (lock, unlock, panic). Some combination of lock-lock and and unlock in there somewhere starts it. Despite my best efforts at figuring it out I can't determine what the right combination is. I think something might be wrong with it but can't troubleshoot without knowing what the right combo is. I can get it to work but can't figure out what the right combo is. I had it into a dealer the other day for the 30,000 mile service and the tech thought that the system was likely OEM.

Does anyone know what the normal, off the lot, no modifications key strike combo is? I searched for awhile but could no find this.

My OEM Ford Remote Starter Keyfob has a separate blue button for Remote Start. All I do is hold down that blue button.

OK, so now I'm thinking its an aftermarket remote starter. Any idea where to start looking so I can ID the model and get an owner's manual?

Look on the back of the remote for an 800 number and/or manufacturer name.

Its exactly the same OEM remote as with my wife's Ford Explorer. Its just an OEM Ford three button remote. Apparently its an aftermarket system designed to work with an OEM key fob and some combination of key presses. I have gotten to start remotely, but not with any consistency on any combination of presses. I'm asking where the logical place would be in the truck to look, I am guessing I need to remove the cowling around the steering wheel and start looking for aftermarket wiring and start tracing that.

I believe you hold the lock and unlock button at the same time (3-5 secs) I had one as a loaner once and kept hitting buttons till I got it to work. If I remember correctly the doors must be locked for it to work or unlocked???

If its a Ford system, look under the steering wheel (remove kick panel). There will be a "unit" (mine's a black box) under there. The Ford systems are made by "Code Alarm". If you do have one of these security systems follow that link and create a user account to access their web site. They provide instruction manuals for all their systems on how to program them, etc.
