i picked up a speedo cable from a 65 or 66 from local yard from what appeared to be an original ranger at first, still not sure. The cable came out of cab and across firewall to passengers side and to trans with clips holding it in place. Both ends are alike. Meaning the trans end is basically the same as the speedo end. I havent looked at my com but I don't remember it going across the firewall. This truck also had original power drum brakes. Does anyone know if I can put a dual bowl master on this and it work with the disc brakes I have already installed and are working fine. It would be nice to get rid of the spacers I made to go between the booster brackets and firewall to mount the 70 booster
My speedo cable went straight to the fire wall from the cluster, then down to the bottom of the cab and then to the left side of the transmission where it went into the transmission tail shaft. The speedo end and a nut as it screwed into the back of the cluster and the transmission end has a big plastic gear and there is a clamp much like what is on a distributor that hold it down in the transmission.
To my knowledge all Ford transmission used in these pickups had the speedo cable on the left side so I can not figure out why it would have been ran over to the passenger side. Someone else on here might be able to explain what the reason was.
If you go back to that salvage yard and write down all the info on the serial number tag and post it on here, several people would be able to tell you if it was indeed a Ranger pickup.
I used the mounting bracket for the booster off of a 1973 F-100 when I completed my disk brake swap so I am not sure how you made your spacer but I would think there are tons of mid 70's pickups around in salvage yard that you could pick up the correct mounting bracket to get rid of the spacers you made. It bolts on to the 65-66 fire wall with no changes needed to the mounting. You will have to change the lenght of the rod that hooks from the booster bracket to the brake pedal but that is an easy change. If needed I can get pictures of what the setup looks like on my 65 as I completed the disk brake swap last fall.
