Picked up a 2008 F350 for a test drive, found right from the get go that it seemed kind of sluggish, thought maybe it was cold. Then got it out on the highway and it barely made it to 80 km/hr and going up a hill down to 50 km/hr. Pulled over and called the dealership, told them something was wrong with the truck as it does not appear to be making any boost. They said dont worry about its just in regen mode, give it twenty minutes or so and it'll get back to normal. So drove it around some more same thing. Barely pulled itself up some hills. Any thoughts?
Should also add its brand new 160 km's on it when I picked it up.
It does not move off zero. I take it that these engines must have really low compression, as without boost it does not have much power to pull itself around.
My 6.4 generates 10-20lbs of boost just pulling away from a stop in a normal, easy manner. Either the turbo is sick, there is a leak between the turbo and the intake or possibly the wastegate or something is open. The engines build boost twice as fast as my 7.3
Mine did a regen last night, drove it until it was over. This was the first time that I noticed the boost was almost nothing the entire time. I kept checking the info center during the regen, when the boost jumped back up I checked it again and the regen was over. I have 2650 miles on mine and have had a few regens already.
something is wrong if its causing power loss, my dads truck has never had a huge loss of power or boost when in regen, exhaust gets way noisier though. if the trucks are working hard the exhaust will often be hot enough on its own to burn off the soot, but like i said, it really shouldn't rob the power much if any at all.
If you are towing that much weight at that % grade, the truck is running hard enough and hot enough to where it is cleaning the dpf out without a regen. Like mentioned above, it sounds like it has turbo issues, possibly a boost leak somewhere
Must be some previous experience here, as I went out and had a look. This is exactly what it was. Much better vehicle with boost. Thanks for the help. Guess I'll have to send an invoice to the dealership for the repair work.
