Automatic Floor Mat

So i ordered a floor mat for my 66. The description said it was a full replacment mat. Well it only covers the front half. My original mat, which was trashed and further destroyed when i removed it, went under the seat and covered almost the whole floor, save for a msall square in the middle under the bench. i want to order a new mat but noticed that there is a differnt mat listed for column shift (mines 3 on the tree) and those with a C6 automatic. i plan to install a C6 in the near future and was planning on moding a later model column with column shift to control the new automatic. i guess my question is, what is the difference in the flor between a column shift manual and a C6 with a column shift. is the tunnel differnt for the C6? if so has anyone swapped a c6 into a column shift manual truck. what did you have to do to the tunnel to accomodate it? and lastly, should i order the c6 mat, and can i get by with it for awhile keeping my 3 on the tree?

thanks guys!

First of all, welcome to the site! You came to the right place for Ford truck info! I have a 66 with a c-6 behind a 352. My truck use to be a standard three on the tree. I am not aware of any mods need to the tunnel. There isn't tons of room above the tranny but it certainly fits in there well!

As posted above, welcome to the FTE forum!

The taller tunnel was only used on trucks with 4 speed manual transmission as they are taller. The automatic and three speed manual were shorter in height and would fit under a stock floor. Some time in the 70's I beleive they switched the floor boards to have the extra tall tunnel on all trucks weather you had a automatic or manual.

I feel your pain on the carpet. I purchased mine years ago and was also disipointed when it did not cover all the floor. Some people have posted on here where to purchase carpet that does cover the whole floor.

thanks guys. i wonder what the part number difference is all about of the mats and carpets. i should cross reference another supplier to see what thats all about.

thanks for the welcome. i have actually been part of the forum before, with a 67 long bed i had many moons ago. it is a great resource.

spending some more time on the truck these days. have been caught up with my 63 falcon the last couple years. plan is to make it a good driver that the wife can handle... as well as a bit of a hot rod. disk brakes, power steering and the automatic are on the agenda for the next 9 months or so (and then lower it next winter). there will be many questions to come as i work onthe shortbed.

thanks again
