SMOKED a 94-01 Dodge 2500 Ext Cab

I have an 86 F-150 302 EFI with a 3.50:1 9" rear. It's got the NP435, and it's a 4x4 with the NP208 transfer case. I had been coasting down this curvy hill, saving gas mileage, as my 4th gear is 1:1. Speed limit was 45, but didn't know anyone was behind me and ended up doing 40 by the bottom of the hill.

I look in my side mirror ( have no rear view) and say a white, 2500 Dodge. Would this have been the Cummins? Don't know much about Dodge truck engine options. Were the Cummins turbo charged in these bodies (94-01)?

Anyways, I left my truck in 4th gear, and easily accelerated to 45... 50.... 55....60. Ok, he had not budged off my ***. I didn't want him to think I was actually trying (I would have wound 3rd out to 65 at the beginning if I was going all out). So, it was on. 65mph, I went WOT.. I could tell he was, too... 65... 85mph, I had pulled 2 truck lengths on him and my engine was REALLY coming in at that speed. RPM @ 3400+ and it was just pulling like mad. By the top of the hill, I was doing around ... well, it only shows 85, but I'd estimate 95. He tried a few more times, and I had the same results. The faster I went, the farther he got.

At the beginning, I was like "Why is this newer, 2500 Cummins picking on my old *** 302??" I really thought he'd make me look like a wimp, but it really cheered my day up (still hyped up about it and it happened yesterday) to leave him in the dust. On one straight away, I got LITERALLY 6-8 truck lenghts ahead, maxing way out passed 85.

Roads I know, no traffic, slow around the curves, fast on the clear straights. All is well.

Tell me about these RAM 2500's. What engine options were in these?

The more I look up about the engine options, it seems that it must have been the Cummins at 215 horspower. I expected him to beat me up the hill... but I left him there, and on the flats. Their V8 engine is something like 230 horsepower (230? horsepower), and some V10 engine (300 horsepower).

Musta been the Cummins. Still proud of it. Expected him to beat me, or stay even at the LEAST.

it feels good to be the best

reminds me of when a i raced a fedex truck about a mile on hwy65. he revved it way up and poped the clutch out, was hilarious to watch him bounce front to back when he shifted. i never got my little i6 over 2000 rpm. it was almost sad
congrats on showing dodge how it is

94 was a 12v engine, less hp , rated at i believe 260 i believe, they arnt speed demons , the newer 01-02 are completly different engine still a cummins but a 24v more hp
gas engines have V10s and V8s

but cool!

Well know you got me posting here. I had an 01 Dodge 2500 with the Cummins. I know have an 06 2500 Dodge with the Cummins. I also have an 1987 F-150 with the 302 4x4 4spd. T-18. I have to say that both my Cummins would walk all over my little 302. Now if you came up to a bone stock 2500-3500 with an auto you might have a chance. But if theres a chip/box on the diesel i think he could pull on ya.

hey chadder1313 I am kind of a cummins guy myself, but I like the old ford bodies. I see your I.D. picture is the cummins logo. I hav an old 60 f500 that I am going to drop a 12v in. Is that kinda stuff tolerated to talk about at this web site?

I don't know what it was. 97 model would be my guess. My truck runs better than a new one off the showroom floor. I used to have another user name here with my mods... but in fear of being banned, I won't say.

I will say this. 302 > Cummins stock for near stock. I smoked it *** plain out. Probably was an auto though. My 302 runs so damn good (FOR A 302 from the 80's!!!!)

I see you guys bringing up fed-ex truck racing and what not. I can do 120mph with somewhat ease. I'm not joking. This race... that Dodge got showed what a 302 can do passed 65mph, up a hill, too.

If you are making fun of me, lemme know. "That's exciting". If I'm taking it the wrong way, lemme know, too. This was a real race, and he stood NO chance.

Now, I know he'd out haul me, but that's not what this is about.

Hey man im not saying you were not able to beat that truck. All im saying is if the truck you raced was infact a diesel with an auto and it was bone stock, i think its very possible you could have walked away from it. No denying that. Lets look at the two trucks for a quick second though. Your truck ways it at 5-5500lbs. The Dodge is roughly 6800-7300lbs. Your truck 180 and 270 i believe. The Dodge 215 and 420 i believe. So looking at those numbers its easy to see in a drag race it could go either way honestly. Quick question though, you think you can walk on a 95-97 Powerstroke?

No clue on the Powerstroke. Why? Are they supposed to be darn fast?

I used to have a 97 Chevy Lumina (Yeah, transmission problems all the time) 3.1 V6. My friend used to have an F-250 with the 7.3. 98 or 2000 model. I don't remember the year of the truck, but I do know it had the 7.3. That Lumina would walk the truck with no problems.

By no means am I calling my truck fast, and I'm not saying I have a factory freak, either. Just telling a story about a race.

What about the 95-97 powerstrokes? Aren't they rated like the Dodge? Yeah, I could probably pull one, especially the faster we went.

Again, not calling my truck fast, but I smoked a Cummins. Are people calling BS on me? I'm just wondering about the truck, maybe which engine option I raced. Not if it's true or not.

I agree with what Chadder said. Of course I was lighter, he weighed more, and if it was the Diesel, it was pushing like 210 horsepower. It more than likely was stock. So, makes sense that I can beat it. But, Chadder, I'm curious, why do you ask about the 95-97 Powerstroke? If it's anything like the Dodge I raced, then yes, I know I could walk one.

You answered my question. I was just wondering where you thought you'd stand against a Ford. I was thinking, for a minute, you were bashing on just Dodges.
