1995 F150 5.8 My engine cuts out while I'm driving. Can be at any speed and in any conditions. After 20-45 minutes it will restart. I've changed the distributor, ignition module, plugs & wires. I'm still getting spark from the coil when the engine dies. I've been to two mechanics with no success. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
The filter was changed about 25,000 miles ago. I hadn't really considered a fuel problem as the engine doesn't chug or anything it just stops like someone turned the key. I'll try a new filter and check the grounds - thanks
Welcome to FTE fedup fordowner,
Check the fuel system, from the pump(s) to the injectors.
If the fuel pump is working erratically, it will feed the fuel lines and the truck will run until the fuel is gone.
Other things to check (you or a mechanic)
fuel pump regulator
throttle position sensor TPS
fuel pump relay
As mentioned earlier - Fuel filter
These are just suggestions- these will at least give you a good start
Does everything cut out electrically or just the engine dies? If everything goes away and then comes back, clean your battery terminals and check the ground on the frame and the block.

You're getting spark from the coil, but are you getting spark through the spark plug wires? I always check for spark at the spark plug wires as this is the final destination. I would spray some starting fluid in the intake next time it quits and won't start to see if you can get a pop out of it. You say you replaced the distributor, which contains the PIP. Rebuilt distributors have a terrible reputation. I know it would be kinda strange if the distributor you have now(again containing the PIP) acts the same as the one you replaced, but I wouldn't rule that out(bad PIPs in both). Just a couple thoughts.
I had that problem also.Twice. The first time I put a starter button in to get it to run because there was a short in the ignition wiring. The second time it was a brand new MSD distributor w/bad Hall effect sensor. So now I`m running the old distributor until MSD sends theirs back to me.Try another distributor.

I want to thank everyone for all the tips and suggestions. My mechanic wants to change the ignition parts in the steering column and also suggested that it may be a computer problem??

You tell your mechanic to just run a hot wire from the positive battery cable terminal to the proper point on the coil connection as a troubleshooting measure before he goes to all the bother and expense of messing in the steering column. You will know when it's properly hot wired when you can shut the ignition switch off and the engine keeps running. Of course then to shut the truck off when hot wired you will need to disconnect this hot wire.
