Well it's been fun so far.. lol no not really but things were going better. So while the clip was off, we put shocks on and started the brake work. While cleaning up the parts I noticed the outer(small) race on the passenger rotor was loose fitting. I see that AutoZone sells a replacement drum for 45.00 and it's 15 to turn the old one at NAPA. I dont see anywhere that there is a rotor being sold. My real worry is "why would this race have worn loose like this?" I have only seen this on a boa trailer to date. That was due to poor maintenance and the obvious elements that come into play with a boat trailer. Hate to throw parts at the thing if say, the spindle is the issue and will wear out a new rotor in short order. The shocks were the original Ford parts "NO ****" and were beyond toast. Maybe the jarring from the poor suspension ?
Wow, original shocks. Guess its like marriage. Since you see her day to day you don't notice the everyday wear and tear as much, lol. You get used to and adapt to rough spots and dents.
I have never seen a loose race, but considering those could be originals that may explain it. You can always get the micrometer out and measure the width of one spindle against the other. A good power washing is probably in order which may show some things not previously seen. I just bought some rotors for my swap project. Make sure and ask if the new rotors come with races and bearings. Paying extra for bearings had a big impact on overall price. You will also need to buy new seals. I've never bought a rotor that came with those.
Think I'm going to toss this one back on for now(while she is idle) and hope to run across one or a set come Feb 13-15 at the parts yard on 1/2 price days. The luck!!
While wrapping up the rear brakes today, (on the account the parts store had rear wheel brake cylinders in stock) and lets face it...we must do something. I decided to grease front end parts and fart about a bit. This is when I discovered the driver king pin has vertical play. Maybe .020 by eye. Wondered if this long with busted shocks would work over a race on the opposite side ? Also noticed the side with a worn race has a scored spindle, possibly even welded up at one point. That would tell the tell more than ever if that is the case.
Ford must have used those wheel cylinders for a hundred years. Its the one part they always seem to stock. No reason to rebuild them since new ones are $10.
You have a parts yard with pre 65 trucks? Lucky you.
The front ones are 45.00!!! a piece!!!! .. rear 10.00 each.. Started to rebuild the fronts but they had so much corrosion on the aluminum pillows it was a scary thought LOL... 4500lbs unloaded that wont stop or locks up is a scary thought. Toss a coupla T's in the bed and HOLY CRAP!

TIA for any input.
Rotor? What rotor? The only rotor in these trucks is inside the dizzy.
No such thing as brake rotors on F100's till 1973.
Rotors = disc brakes.
Buying a brake drum only will not help if the race has spun, because it's inside the hub.
You'll need to replace the hub, and AFAIK, no autoparts stores sell them.

Thanks for the correction on a HUB. Yep that is in fact going to be a parts yard item if that lucky. So will any early Ford with 15" wheels and drum front brakes work for this as a replacement part ? Hoping to find hubs with good drums but ?
The $400.00 for a kit of some sort wont be the end of it is my suspicion. By the time the usual issues raise thee head and all the right parts, additional BS gets resolved that will be in the 7 bills range LOL/..
At the moment I'm trying to get this one mobile so I can put the 66' in the back and get it done up right over the next few years. I'd like to do the disc upgrade when it's time for an overhaul on it down the road and it's a fun truck instead of a work one.(Big FE and all)
For now we'll just get her on the road, toting lumber, crete, soil etc.. maybe let her drag the boat around some for good measure
